Upstream and Downstream
Within the supply chain, anything concerned with the point of view of the customer is called an Upstream Activity. This would include activities like the flow of raw materials, parts or components going into the organisation.
Downstream activities involve everything that is from the point of the source i.e. product assembly, storage of finished goods, sale and distribution.
Both these supply chain activities need to be planned by organisations so that they can ensure optimum efficiency is achieved. Co-ordination within the supply chain is paramount for this to happen.
Activities within a supply chain will turn raw materials and / or parts or components into a final product for an end customer.
