The Distributor
A distributor is engaged in distributing information about products. They provide services to a Company’s clients regarding purchasing company products and are involved in attracting new prospects for the company. The advantage of distribution is that it allows manufacturers the ability to focus on the core business of making products, leaving the selling to the distributor. The network of retail outlets is the true value of a distributor. Contract pricing is developed by the manufacturer for bulk purchases to the distributor who in turn markets the products to the retail clients.
Transportation
Finished products within the warehouse are on-moved by the shipping department (or goods outward) via the most efficient method (taking into account distance, cost etc...to meet required delivery dates).
The Retailer
A retailer sells goods to the consumer, as opposed to a wholesaler or supplier (or distributor), who will normally sell their goods to other businesses.
