Module 1: Understand the concept of a supply chain



Integrated Systems

Developments in logistics, and their distribution systems, have gone some way for companies to look at more integrated operations. There are two main reasons why these developments have evolved:

  1. The realisation of the importance, complexity and cost of logistics,
  2. The impact that improvements in information technology.

Integration describes various communication channels and linkages within a supply chain network with four distinct modes;

  1. Internal Integration,
  2. Backward Integration (External Integration),
  3. Forward Integration (External Integration),
  4. Forward and backward Integration (External Integration).
